ABOUT THE BRAND
Puiforcat was established in Paris by two brothers, Emile and Joseph-Marie Puiforcat, in 1820. They produced exquisite silver for royal and noble households, including the official silver cutlery of the Élysée Palace. But it was during the Art Deco period that fourth generation silversmith Jean Emile Puiforcat made the family firm synonymous with the exuberant and geometric style of the 1920s and ‘30s. Jean Emile turned the page on the intricate 19th century designs that characterized the company’s older works, and began creating modern luxury flatware and tableware with flat surfaces, clean shapes, and gentle curves – one famous teapot from 1935 is said to resemble the prow of a cruise ship. Puiforcat silver is still crafted by hand in France, and today the company also creates tableware in exotic woods, as well as stainless steel versions of the silver flatware suitable for everyday use.
